I very seriously doubt if I’m telling you something you don’t know already as an eCommerce store owner or marketer, but I just can’t emphasize enough on the advantages of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation – or Optimization for the Americans :-)) for your storefront.
In the unlikely event that you don’t know what SEO is, here is my short and sweet introduction to this highly beneficial online marketing method:
SEO – Search Engine Optimisation (or Optimizaation) is the art and the science of getting a web site to show up at or near the top of the results when search engine users search for keywords that are related to the site’s topic.
As I am sure you can readily imagine, SEO has the potential to send a decent amount of targeted visitors to your site or storefront. Contrary to what you may have been led to believe, basic SEO is not really a dark-art or rocket science. In fact, many basic aspects of SEO can be quite effectively and successfully performed by just about anyone who can use a PC and the Internet.
Since you already have an online store up and running, I’m sure you have used an eCommerce platform to create and host it. It may come as a surprise to you to know that most eCommerce platforms offer varying amounts of SEO features under their standard service plans.
As a matter of fact, popular eCommerce platforms like Magento, Shopify, BigCommerce, wooCommerce, SquareSpace, Volusion and 3dCart provide excellent SEO features that you can easily implement on your store in order to boost your traffic, marketing and sales. Other platforms like GoDaddy, weebly, WIX, PrestaShop, BigCartel, ZenCart and osCommerce also provide comparatively lesser number of SEO features.
Thus, my first marketing tip – or suggestion to you, in case you’ve not explored the SEO features of your eCommerce platform, is to do so right away. Check thoroughly the SEO capabilities of your platform and implement as many of the available features and options as you can – you will probably come back and thank me sometime later. 🙂
(As I keep building and growing this blog, I will be covering hands-on SEO tips and techniques in a major way, so stay tuned.)
